the district heugemerveld (formerly called akerpoort) is located between the railroad line maastricht-liège, the districts wyck and céramique and the route of the john f. kennedysingel. heugemerveld was originally built just after world war ii to an urban plan by frans dingemans. it was a traditional working-class neighborhood with mostly rental housing. in recent years, the neighborhood has been revitalized and many of the old houses have been demolished or renovated and in 2008-2009 there was a lot of new construction in the neighborhood, mainly single-family homes such as this offered type of house which were completed as the last phase.
in terms of facilities it is a fairly complete district with stores (including lidl), elementary school, gyms and public transport (bus and train station maastricht central), good connections to the highway a2 and within cycling distance of wyck and downtown maastricht.
